Within the Tokara Archipelago in Japan lies the remote island of Akuseki. It's home to 83 residents, and one mysterious visiting deity called Boze. This is a community that suffers from a declining population, but unlike any others, this one welcomes all that arrives from the sea with an open heart, even a lost boy.

“Koki is suffering from something we call Hikikomori. It’s actually a big social problem in Japan with few clear solutions. Some say more than 3 million people have issues integrating society. They never leave their room. It’s a social problem and these days there is the 8050 problem, which means the kid is 50 years old and the parents are 80. They are about to die, still supporting their recluse kid. Their anxiety for the future is enormous. To see that he is integrating the small society in Akusekijima is truly remarkable.” Mochizuki Fuyuko
