During the sixties, the Chinese government fearing a conflict with Soviet Union requested the most strategically important firms to settle inside the country and make a ‘ third line of defence’. At the beginning of the eighties, Qinghong is a nineteen-year-old young woman living with his family in Guizhou province. She always lived there, all her friends and her first love are there. Yet, her father like all uprooted workers always hoped to come back to Shanghai one day, where he believes a brighter future is possible for all of them.

How can people live together when no one shares the same dreams?

Wang Xiaoshuai wanted to dedicate his very personal film to "his parents and to the countless people who shared the same fate".
