Bertrand Tavernier leaves for Cambodia to shoot Holy Lola, a feature film about the adoption of a child abroad. Shooting the making of a film has become quite usual nowadays. Yet, this is a special situation since Tavernier asked a Cambodian film-maker and director of photography to follow him and shoot a film where he would rediscover his own roots and confront the ghosts of his personal story.

In the Country of Eternal Sentinels is above all the encounter between a director, Bertrand Tavernier, and a country, Cambodia. It is also the story of French and Cambodian actors and technicians meeting and working together for the film. It is of course Nara Keo Kosal’s personal story of a Cambodian coming back home in search of his roots and re-learning Khmer, his own language. Eternal Sentinels is the Cambodian name for antipersonnel mines.
