Mei Zhu and Xiao Lu are a divorced couple when they are told their young daughter Héhé suffers from leukemia. Only a transplant can save her, and a new child born from both of them would be sufficiently compatible to allow a bone marrow transplant. After they separated, Mei Zhu and Xial both started all over again. This new situation endangers their relationships with Lao Xie, a gentle and discreet man and Dong Fang, an air hostess who also wishes to bear a child from Xiao Lu. The first problem tacked in the film is a universal situation faced by a couple: how to save one’s child. In addition on finds the situation of a reconstituted family, which is particular in China with the highly restrictive policy of the only child. “I wanted to make a film about the life of people who are forty, about the kind of life we lead and problems we need to face. I could identify with the two fathers in the film. They just need to face this problem, the situation and reality of life.” Wang Xiaoshuai
