Unrelased

A taciturn and dazed young man walks alone all the way from Lhassa to Golmud, his native village. He does not want to travel by bus which is too fast for him and prefers to walk in an inhospitable landscape, exposed to scorching days and icy nights, on the verge of exhaustion. He wants to make this trip alone, like a pilgrim, and he rejects the friendly gesture of an old man who sacrifices his own comfort and obligations in order to take care of him, not wanting to leave him alone. We soon understand that Nyma is tormented by remorse. He accidently ran over his mother while driving a tractor. He suffers both from her death and from being responsible of it.

Nyma's arduous journey through guilt and grief is also, of course, a spiritual journey: a search for understanding about life and death.
