A long way from wealthy families’ luxury and the city comfort, Divina’s family leads a simple life by selling fish caught by her husband Rex. Their children are their pride and joy. Rowena is about to celebrate her thirteenth birthday with instant noodles and small toys. She goes to a small floating school. Divina could not gather the 800 pesos for her school fees. It heartbreaking for her to think she cannot give her children a normal schooling. As every day, Rowena goes to school on a small boat with her best friend Jennifer. Their boat is suddenly overturned by a crocodile. While Divina tries to find her daughter’s body in the Augusan swamps, she is taught an even more tragic lesson than the one inflicted by destiny on her: all predators are not under the water. “Bwaya” was inspired by a true story.
