Spicy or not? opens with a shot of famous Sichuan fondue and closes with a shot of a goose that will end up in a pot. In between these sequences, we meet Sichuan artists in their studios, a collector, a gallery owner, an art critic and a woman video director. The films shows artists at work and their interviews give an insight about China today. Entering the contemporary artistic scene, we enjoy drinking a cup of tea, smoking a Yunnan pipe, observing a dog playing in the studio of an artist, or looking at painted vision of a peony, the Chinese permanence. This informative documentary is above all an ‘atmospheric’ and aesthetic work.
